Introduction to Sacha Inchi Oil

Sacha inchi oil (Sachi Oil) is a vegetable oil cold-pressed from the seeds of Plukenetia volubilis L., a plant native to the Amazon rainforest, primarily found in Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. Sacha inchi is now commercially cultivated in several Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam.

Sacha inchi seed oil has long been used as a natural conditioning oil to support skin care and maintain healthy skin. Its notably high unsaturated fatty acid content is a key reason this ingredient is valued in personal care applications [1].

Sacha inchi fruits have a distinctive star shape, typically with four to seven lobes. As they mature, their color gradually changes from green to dark brown or black. Inside are oval, dark brown seeds rich in lipids and proteins.
